Definition of Fashion

Fashion

Fashion is the act or process of determining what is desirable and appropriate for people in a particular period. This includes clothing, footwear, makeup, hairstyles and body postures, as well as lifestyle choices. It also includes any look defined by the fashion industry as “trending.”

Definition of Fashion

The word ‘fashion’ can mean a wide range of things, but its most common meaning is the ‘outward appearance of an individual’. This can be applied to anyone in any walk of life.

A popular dictionary definition of the word ‘fashion’ is: a form of self-expression and autonomy at a certain period and place in a particular context, of clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, and hairstyles.

In some ways, fashions may vary significantly within a society according to age, social class, generation, occupation and geography. However, in many societies they are still determined by a specific culture.

Another sense of the word ‘fashion’ is to refer to what is considered appropriate or acceptable dress, manners, or etiquette in society as a whole. This can include the way a person looks or behaves, the kind of food they eat, and even their style of writing or performing arts.

This sense is more common than the first sense of ‘fashion,’ as it has a wider appeal. This could be because it is not limited to a specific group of individuals; rather, it encompasses the entire population.

The second sense of ‘fashion,’ as it relates to the word ‘fad’ is also broader and can be used to describe a trend that has gained popularity or has become accepted as a fad in a particular area. This can be a change in a cultural practice or an individual’s own style, but it can also be a change of style from previous fashions, such as the emergence of punk rock or a new way to wear clothing.

‘Fads’ are usually characterized by rapid changes in style or a large number of people following the new trend. These fads can be brief or long lasting, and may have an economic, political, or cultural basis.

One example of a ‘fad’ is the current trend of wearing denim jeans. These jeans are worn by a large percentage of people and have become very popular.

These jeans were originally designed for a certain type of person but have become the standard fashion in their particular field. They are now available in a variety of colors and styles.

Ready to Wear Garments

Often called ‘pret-a-porter’ garments, these are the most affordable options on the market and are available in mass quantities at standard measurements. They are designed by designers who sell them through major department stores such as GAP, Nordstrom or Old Navy.

Designer Label Garments

Unlike ready to wear garments, designer label garments are made by designers and sold at higher prices. They can be more exclusive and usually feature designer names or logos.

They can also be made of a more expensive material. Some are made of fur, wool, or leather.
